Notable Metis People in our history include:

Louis Riel - (1844-1885):

Riel became active and popular in politics in Red River, organizing and leading a provisional government. When the province of Manitoba was created, he was forced into the USA although still being elected to sit in the House of Commons. The Métis of Saskatchewan invited Riel to return to Canada and help set up another provisional govenment. In 1884 he organized a List of Rights, sending it to the federal government. The big bad answer was bullets and chains for Riel, being charged with high treason. Three battles in 1885, Duck Lake, Fish Creek, and Batoche, ended with Riel surrendering and, despite many appeals, being hung.
